about us
Authoright was founded in 2007 by an author who wanted to help other authors.
Having written, self published and successfully promoted his own book Single White Failure, Gareth Howard decided to share his experiences with other writers as they entered the publishing world for the first time. Like so many writers, Gareth experienced rejection after rejection upon submitting his manuscript to literary agents and publishers. He was told repeatedly that his book — whilst ‘good’ — wasn’t commercial or marketable; determined not to take no for an answer, he set out to prove the industry wrong, by successfully self publishing his book — long before self publishing was fashionable — and joining forces with his journalist partner, Hayley Radford, to launch a PR campaign that would see him featured in the Sunday Times, BBC Radio, Boston Globe and Mail, Sydney Morning Herald and NBC’s Today Show amongst others. Gareth knew that what he’d learnt about design, publishing and promotion could help other authors who were being turned down by the traditional side of the industry; today Authoright’s clients include several of the agents and publishers who had rejected Gareth’s book!
The publishing industry has changed irrevocably in recent years, but Authoright’s ethos has remained the same since its inception: empowering and inspiring new authors whilst helping them to make their publishing dreams a reality.
Authoright takes what it sees as the best bits of traditional publishing and combined them with the advantages of self publishing. they were the ones to coin the term of hybrid publishing. They have been the leading company in this area since 2009.
Authoright has worked with over 3,000 writers. Each year its Author Consultants speak to around 2,500 writers free of charge, helping them to identify and solve their publishing needs; we are the only company to do so anywhere in the world. Authors from all routes to publication can come to Authoright for help with their editing, book cover design, website development, branding, bespoke self publishing, social media, marketing and publicity.
As well as working with individual authors, Authoright works across the publishing industry, with literary agents, traditional publishers, self publishing platforms and writing communities, sharing our knowledge and expertise in order to help everyone working with books ensure they are offering their authors the services and opportunities they really need.
With offices in London and New York, Authoright works with authors from around the world, even promoting books in foreign language territories. We’re the only company of our kind with an international presence and we’re still entirely self-funded.
Above all else, Authoright exists so that writers have someone to talk to. If you think we can help you, just drop us a line.

Gareth Howard CEO & Co-Founder
A former corporate lawyer, Gareth successfully self published his first novel Single White Failure back in 2005, becoming one of the first modern self publishing ‘bestsellers’. An early supporter of self publishing, he wanted to make professional editorial, design and promotional services available to all authors, whilst keeping them fair and affordable. Despite running Authoright, Gareth still speaks to over 1000 authors individually each year, as well as presenting at publishing conferences in the UK and US. Gareth is also the founder of LitFactor, a startup designed to change how authors submit to literary agents, Clink Street Publishing and the London Author Fair. He’s still working on book number two…

Hayley Radford Head of Publicity & Co-Founder
Hayley is a journalist by trade and worked in broadcasting for a decade before founding Authoright with Gareth. While still at university, Hayley was making live sports programmes for BBC Radio London 94.9FM before moving into the arts and entertainment arena, producing and presenting cultural programming for the BBC and UK commercial radio. She has worked for The Sun, The Times and Time Out Magazine on their multimedia content and has interviewed the great and the not so great of sport, current affairs, art, dance, literature, theatre, music, film and television. As a publicist, her clients have appeared on BBC Television and Radio, The Daily Mail and The Times Literary Supplement amongst others. Along with Gareth Howard, she is the founder of LitFactor, Clink Street Publishing and the London Author Fair.
